Acupuncture Can Speed Up Labour

Through time, acupuncture was found out to be capable of treating a wide range of illness and surprisingly, it can help in speeding up labour in women. How is this possible?

To many moms, going into labour is such a difficult and undesirable experience. You can never imagine how painful it is to be in labour and words aren?t enough to describe the excruciating pain which pregnant women have to deal with before giving birth.

It is such a terrible agony to be in labour for a couple of hours and even days. But there are actually ways on how to speed up your labour. Acupuncture promises relief to women who are afraid of going through the labour stage of their pregnancy.

Acupuncture-How It?s Done

Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing which revolves around a premise that the body is consist of meridians or channels. These meridians serve as the pathways of life energy or chi in the body. When these meridians are blocked, diseases begin to occur.

Through the years, more and more pregnant women have come to believe in the power of acupuncture in helping them get through labour and delivery easily and successfully. Since this traditional method of healing does not bring any adverse side effects to the body, many doctors are recommending acupuncture treatments before delivery. In one study, it was even found out that acupuncture can help in turning a breech fetus towards the end of pregnancy.

According to Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is capable of providing emotional and physical support to women when labouring. Compared to modern induction drugs, acupuncture does not bring any side effects to mothers as well as their babies.

Nowadays, many women have depended on induction drugs when giving birth. However, it was found out that induction drugs such as Pitocin has the potential to create adverse effects to pregnant women. These side effects include nausea, vomiting, pelvic hematoma, premature ventricular contractions, fatal afibrinogenemia, anaphylactic reaction, cardiac arrhythmia and postpartum hemorrhage.

Benefits of Acupuncture In Labour

Basically, acupuncture helps in shortening the time spent on labour, reducing complications and limiting the possibility of having a caesarean section. Also, it reduces the need for oxytocin which is necessary to speed up labour as well as in reducing the need for pain medications prior to giving birth.

Acupuncture also plays a vital role in inducing labour for pregnancy which is over 40 weeks as well as in increasing the frequency and strength of contraction. In fact, it can help in inducing labour within 48 hours in women who were considered by their physicians as overdue. Acupuncture is also beneficial in the management of back pain, fear, fatigue and anxiety which are associated with labour and giving birth.

Acupuncture may be effective in inducing labour however the process is not immediate. Many hospitals would prefer the natural way of getting in and out of labour. But of course, every hospital bed is expensive as well as the doctor?s professional fee. The longer you stay in the hospital, the more expensive your hospital bill would be. In this case, it is recommended to begin getting your acupuncture treatment before your due date arrives. Expert acupuncturists can provide clear information about how long you should wait before your labour begin.

Acupuncture Points To Induce Labour

Pain during labour usually arises from stretching of the cervix. The onset of labour increases the level of endorphin which helps the mothers cope with the pain associated with labour.

Stimulating the "Forbidden Points" is beneficial in influencing the muscles of the uterus which can help in strengthening contraction. These acupuncture points are considered as forbidden points because they cannot be stimulated in any other times expect during pregnancy.

Stimulating the ear points is beneficial in reducing pain and increasing uterine contractions. Aside from its pain relieving effects, stimulating the auricular points is also beneficial in providing ample amount of energy which in turn can help in preventing prolonged labour.

Most of the acupuncture points for labour are located in the ears. By stimulating the auricular points with electrical impulses, acupuncture can help in speeding up contractions especially when labour has slowed down. Aside from its capacity to provide pain relief, the stimulation of acupuncture points also provides relaxation effects.

There are FREE expert downloads available which investigate a range of topics relating to acupuncture, such as why it works, what it can help and further research. Click on acupuncture for labour to source these excellent resources.

    LG Optimus L9 handson

Thought LG didn't have any more to add to the L-Style series to offer the world? Behold the L9. Announced yesterday, the device made an appearance on the IFA show room floor this week, boasting a big and bright 4.7-inch IPS display that makes its brethren look downright shrimpy by comparison. In spite of the display size, the phone feels light, with an 8.9-millimeter profile.

It's important to note here that, in spite of being the king of the L-Series, it's still part of a budget lineup, and as such, the phone's body feels a bit plasticky, and the textured rear had a bit of trouble staying snapped in place in the two models (black and white) that we played with. Specwise, we're talking a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM inside, 4GB of storage (expandable via a microSD slot) and a 2,150mAh battery. The handset's rocking Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4, to be precise).

The handset's got a fairly nice bezel, with the front-facing camera on the top and a home button on the bottom, flanked by illuminating back and menu touch buttons. A larger, 5MP camera is located on the rear of the device, above the flash. Vodafone has the handset priced at €50.90 subsidized and €340 unsubsidized. Peep a video of the handset, after the break.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- A new center at the University of Michigan will accelerate the progression to the marketplace of drugs under development at laboratories across campus.

Called the Center for the Discovery of New Medicines (CDNM), it will coordinate and support work in a range of departments and schools to streamline drug discovery and development, support the translation of early research toward patient usea gray area where funding is scarceand fully leverage the technical capabilities and intellectual resources at U-M in service of discovering the therapies of tomorrow.

"The CDNM will be a central hub for a dynamic community of researchers working on cures for devastating diseases," said Phil Hanlon, U-M povost and executive vice president for academic affairs. "Making collaborations possible and offering expert guidance throughout the process will catalyze activity in this area."

Funding for early stage drug discoveryidentifying pathways involved in disease and finding ways to interact with those pathwayshas declined in the pharmaceutical industry. The National Institutes of Health has recently increased funding for translational research, but the investment is insufficient and many projects frequently languish without the financial support to conduct the next stage of development.

The CDNM is a virtual organization founded by multiple schools and departments at U-M that are involved in biomedical research. Through rapid-access seed grants and twice-yearly pilot grant competitions, the CDNM will fund crucial steps in the drug discovery process while linking facilities that are currently unconnected.

"There is a lot of exciting work happening in drug discovery at U-M, but it's fragmented," said Rick Neubig, professor of pharmacology and director of the CDNM. "By marrying the power of chemical diversity with the broad reach and expertise of Michigan biologists, we expect a big impact."

Disease areas in which U-M is making the most immediate progress are cancer, inflammation, orphan and metabolic diseases and neurodegeneration, Neubig said.

The participating organizations at U-M pooled about $500,000 a year for the next three years to distribute as grants. Neubig expects the CDNM will fund 10 to 15 projects a year. Tenure-track and research-track faculty members at U-M will be able to apply. Applications for the first round of grants are due Oct. 1.

"The NIH is increasingly awarding its research funding to translational areas like innovative pharmacology and drug discovery," said Dr. James O. Woolliscroft, dean of the U-M Medical School. "The center will help position us to compete for this funding." The CDNM will also be a hub to connect U-M researchers with commercial partners and foundations, Neubig said, adding that he expected the CDNM to help stimulate the region's economy.

"The CDNM can really maximize the potential for academic drug discovery at U-M and accelerate the discovery of new therapeutics," said David Sherman, the Hans W. Vahlteich Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and associate dean for research and graduate education in U-M's College of Pharmacy and a Life Sciences Institute faculty member. "We hope this work will lead to increased business development around drug discovery, which has the potential ripple throughout the industry and the region."

The CDNM is distinguished from academic drug discovery efforts at other institutions by the breadth and depth of U-M's biomedical research, its capabilities in areas like medicinal chemistry and pharmacokinetics that are traditionally associated with the pharmaceutical industry, unique natural product extract libraries and a data-sharing system that increases efficiency and supports collaboration.

"Universities play a critical and growing role in early-stage drug discovery," said Dr. Jeff Leiden, chairman, CEO and president of Vertex Pharmaceuticals. "The work of academic researchers who are identifying and testing promising new targets and compounds is an important step in developing new breakthrough drugs for serious diseases. Collaborations between academic groups and biotech companies are increasingly important in discovering the next generation of transformational medicines."

U-M has the technological infrastructure critical to early stage drug development, but because the scientists working in this area are spread throughout the university, collaboration is sometimes difficult.

"We've seen firsthand the progress than can be made when scientists are able to work together spontaneously and smoothly," said Alan Saltiel, the Mary Sue Coleman Director of the Life Sciences Institute. "The CDNM will make it possible for scientists with promising discoveries to work together in new and highly productive ways to further develop potential treatments."

    ###

Funding for the CDNM has been provided by the College of Pharmacy, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Pathology, Endowment for the Basic Sciences, Life Sciences Institute, Medical School Office of Research and the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research. Lenovo IdeaTab A2107 gets formal unveiling at IFA 2012 a ruggedized, 7inch Android 40 slate handson photos

Lenovo just announced its IdeaTab A2107 at IFA here today. The ruggedized Android 4.0 slate, powered by a dual-core MTK Cortex A9 CPU clocked at 1GHz, adds a buffer of protection to its 7-inch expanse with a soft matte, roll cage enclosure -- perfect for the accident-prone or the outdoorsy demo it's being marketed toward. The entry-level tab's 1024 x 600 display is no screamer, putting it on par with the very 2011 Kindle Fire, but the company has loaded it up with radios for WCDMA / GSM, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and FM radio via built-in antenna. As far as storage goes, users will be able to choose among WiFi-only or 3G models in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB configurations, all expandable via microSD. No pricing or release information has been made available, aside from a vague September 2012 window, so if you're keen on this modest tablet, sate your appetite with the gallery below.

Knight accepts Nasdaq's $62 million Facebook payback plan

(Reuters) - After heaping criticism on Nasdaq OMX Group's initial offer for compensating brokers for its botching of Facebook's initial public offering, trading firm Knight Capital Group Inc said it accepts the exchange's latest plan, which would pay out $62 million.

The plan, which Nasdaq has called its "definitive word" on the Facebook debacle, is under consideration by the SEC and brings into question the extent to which an exchange can be liable for technical slip-ups. U.S. exchanges match hundreds of billions of dollars of securities transactions every day.

Knight's support comes after Nasdaq increased the payback fund to $62 million in cash from an earlier $40 million, made up mostly of trading rebates, the market-making firm said in a letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, dated August 29.

Nasdaq has around 300 member firms that trade on the exchange. Knight and other retail market-making firms and brokers together lost more than $500 million in the IPO.

Of the handful of comment letters on the compensation plan, two have voiced support: Knight's and hedge fund Citadel's. Seven -- from market makers, brokers, and lawyers for individual investors -- have called for it to be rejected.

"Although we would have preferred that the accommodation pool cover all losses sustained by Nasdaq members, we do support Nasdaq's proposal," Knight said in the letter.

Knight, which facilitates trades for other firms, had called Nasdaq's earlier plan "inadequate," and said it was considering legal action over the Facebook IPO.

Liabilities at exchanges, which have some regulatory duties, are capped in most instances. Nasdaq's cap is $3 million.

Much of the debate around the plan has focused on whether Nasdaq should be able to cloak itself in regulatory immunity in situations where it is operating as a for-profit entity.

    LIABILITY

Facebook's eagerly anticipated IPO on May 18, which raised $16 billion, was initially delayed by 30 minutes due to a technical glitch at Nasdaq.

The exchange then made the decision to get the stock trading by using a secondary system that ended up leading to delays in many clients orders and confirmations, costing some investors and traders big losses as the stock price dropped after an initial gain.

UBS AG, which disclosed it lost more than $350 million, and Citigroup's Automated Trading Desk, which is said to have lost up to $35 million, have argued that Nasdaq should be responsible for all of the losses, because the decision to move forward with the IPO was a business decision made in haste.

Further, Citi said trading of Facebook should not have been allowed to continue during the confusion that followed.

But Knight, which said it lost more than $35 million in the IPO, urged the SEC to leave the discussion of liability limitations and regulatory immunity to another day. Citadel, which is said to have lost $20 million, made a similar request.

    RELEASE WAIVER

Knight did urge the SEC to reject a portion of Nasdaq's plan requiring firms that sign on to waive their right to sue the exchange, likely before they know how much they will be reimbursed. Knight said that would set "a harmful precedent."

"Setting forth those types of requirements in the context of a rule filing inappropriately mixes commercial issues with regulatory requirements," Knight said in the three-page letter also addressed to SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro.

It said if the SEC disagrees and determines that some form of release is appropriate, it should only be sought after Nasdaq members are notified of the amount Nasdaq is willing to pay under the terms of the accommodation plan.

A Nasdaq spokesman had no comment on Knight's letter.

Nasdaq also faces regulatory investigations into its systems and actions during the IPO.

Knight had its own trading glitch on August 1, costing the firm $440 million and nearly forcing it into bankruptcy before a group of independent firms saved it with a $400 million investment.

How Are Plus Size Women Viewed in Our Society? | Jackie's ...

    Related eBooks

Plus size women are often viewed by society as utter disdain. People automatically assume that because a women is plus size that she is both lazy and unattractive. Often you will find people quietly saying, ? It is really a shame, she should loose some weight.? The really is that plus size women is not plus sized because they like it. Our society as a whole breads people to become overweight. Why? Just watch your favorite show on TV and what do you see? Lots of food advertisements which is intended to lure the viewers to eat. After all, with the stress, unemployment, and life issues food is a comfort. It actually feels good to go to McDonald to pick up that super sized quarter pounder with fries and a hefty super sized coke.

The society feels that plus size women can do something about it. But there are so many obstacles that keep these women large. Most plus size women are single parents raising children in this messed up world. The children have issues that affect large women and aggravates the problem. In addition, the clothes that plus size women have to wear does not add happiness to their life. Plus size clothing is often hard to find in the local department store which adds to the frustration of these women. Not to mention the styles, colors and sizes not being readily available when needed.

We live in a society plus sized women are often stereotyped and judged even though no one has gotten to know them. Most of us already know someone who is plus size that do not fit this criteria. I am a plus size woman who has to deal with being criticized and excluded merely because of my size. But when you look into the heart of a plus size women you will find lots of kindness and a desire to escape the issues associated with being plus sized. There is a silent suffering that accompanies this condition. We talk a lot of times about drug addiction but food addiction is I think the worst thing that can happen to any individual. The reason is because society promotes eating. Everywhere you look there is eating. There are billboards, restaurants on every corner, fast food places. Advertisers spend millions of dollars trying to get the plus size women to keep eating. Why do these women fall into the trap? Because it is comforting to know that somehow eating makes you fit in. Food excepts you. No rejection. However, the society we live in often rejects the overweight plus size woman for no reason. It is a discrimination that is daunting and irritating.

Maybe one day we will live in a society that will except plus size women for who they are and not because of their appearance. Being rejected by society is a terrible situation to endure just because of being overweight. I know most would say, ?Just do something about it?. Easier said than done. Its not because these women have not tried. But sometimes temptation is very hard to overcome. For some of these women, the stress of life prevents them from completing the steps necessary to protect their overall health and getting down to the perfect size.

I am not making excuses for the plus sized women but I am trying to make it clear that the society we live in is often cruel to these women. There are many cases where the plus women have conquered the problem of being overweight and is on a road of recovery but overall most struggle with many of the issues mentioned. If our society was more supportive of the plus size women then these challenges would be easier to overcome.

W.Va state trooper, suspect killed in shootout

By NBC News staff and wire reports

A West Virginia state trooper was shot dead, another was critically wounded while the?suspect they confronted in a traffic stop was also killed in back-to-back exchanges of gunfire near Charleston on Tuesday night, authorities said.

Details of the two shootouts, which occurred roughly an hour apart along Interstate 79 in Clay County, remained sketchy.

But the deadly chain of events unfolded after a pair of state police officers pulled over a suspect near Wallback, a community about 30 miles northeast of Charleston, and a gunfight ensued, state police Captain Bill Scott said.

The Charleston Gazette newspaper reported?that the traffic stop occurred at around 8 p.m. ET.?

According to?West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous, the suspect had been driving erratically,?The Associated Press reported.

    Read the story on WBOY.com

One trooper was killed and his partner was left in critical condition in the gunfire, Scott said. A tow-truck driver on the scene also was injured.

It was not immediately clear how he was connected to the incident and whether he was struck by gunfire or was otherwise hurt, Scott said.

He was unable to confirm local media reports that the first gunfight erupted when the suspect grabbed the weapon of one of the state troopers.

The suspect then fled a short distance on foot and was subsequently confronted by a sheriff's deputy, Scott said. A second exchange of gunfire at that location left the deputy wounded and the suspect dead. The deputy's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The wounded were taken to CAMC General Hospital, the Gazette reported, quoting Baylous.

Baylous also said the names of those involved in the incident would not be released until their families have been notified, the AP reported.

"This being a rural area, we can't put the names out until we get the chance to talk to everybody," he said according to the AP.

"This tragedy reminds us of the sacrifices that our law enforcement officers make every day to keep us safe,"?West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin said in a statement quoted by local NBC station WBOY.

The incident is under investigation, police said.

(AP) ? Russian President Vladimir Putin is spending billions of taxpayers' rubles on 20 luxurious residences, 43 jets and four yachts, a top opposition leader claimed Tuesday.

All heads of state use government property and funds for presentation purposes, but Boris Nemtsov says Putin's lifestyle is far more lavish than his Western counterparts.

In the report released Tuesday, Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister, estimated that the maintenance of Putin's residences, jets and cars alone costs $2.5 billion a year.

"Putin has been mistaking government property for his own for a long time," Nemtsov said. "This is an insolent, cynical and luxurious lifestyle at taxpayers' expense."

Putin's press service was not immediately available for comment Tuesday but his spokesman had earlier words on the report.

"All of this is government property and Putin uses it all legally as an elected president," Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the RBK daily on Monday after parts of the report had appeared online.

The report ? titled "The Life of A Galley Slave" after an epithet Putin used in 2008 to describe the hardships of his first two presidencies ? is based largely on news reports. It includes numerous photographs, including of Putin's collection of exquisite wristwatches worth about $700,000 ? about his official salary for six years,

Putin returned to the Kremlin in May for a third term after four years sitting out as prime minister due to constitutional limits.

Opposition members and a handful of Russia's independent publications have long claimed that Putin had more than a dozen luxurious residencies built or renovated for him throughout Russia ? from an imperial palace in his native St. Petersburg to resorts on the Black Sea to hunting grounds in national parks.

They also accused him of appointing his childhood friends, former classmates and KGB colleagues to key government jobs or allowing their businesses to thrive on oil and gas exports or hefty government contracts.

Nemtsov said his report will be distributed free of charge or online because he could not find a Russian publisher.

Despite a wave of massive protests this winter that followed Russia's fraud-tainted parliamentary and presidential votes, Putin remains popular among average Russians, largely thanks to government-controlled television networks that critics compare to Soviet propaganda.

Nemtsov, who heads the People's Freedom Party, has already authored another report on the unprecedented rise of corruption among government officials since Putin was first elected in 2000.

Graft also has become more institutionalized under Putin. Bosses tend not to punish their employees for taking bribes, but rather demand a share. Observers say the Kremlin has tolerated the wrongdoing because it's the main source of income for millions of bureaucrats whose support is crucial to Putin.

Reflecting that, Transparency International's corruption perception index has ranked Russia 143rd out of 183 countries.

Don't let Facebook's design changes trick you into sharing more info

    5 hrs.

While a smidgen of lipstick won't make a pig win any beauty pageants, some?design changes may affect how easily you hand information and control?over to Facebook apps.

As?guest writer Avi Charkham points out in a post on TechCrunch,?the launch of Facebook's new App Center brought a redesigned app permissions page.?While more visually appealing ??though this is a matter of opinion ??the new design?bring some pesky changes that could trick you into exposing more personal info or granting more control to apps than you realize.

For example: The old app permission request page offered two buttons ??"allow" and "don't allow ??while the new one simple has one button (something along the lines of "play game"). This leaves some users unaware of the fact that they're about to offer an app access to information or the ability to post on their behalf. Of course, someone on Facebook's side of things could argue that the app permission page does indeed outline exactly which permissions you're granting an app when you use it, but ??as Charkham points out ? details?are listed in a tiny grey font or only visible when you hover your mouse over a little question mark symbol.

And?then there's what Charkham describes as the "friendly talk trick":

In the new App Center Facebook chose to hide the term ?Permissions?. Instead of showing ?Request for Permissions? and a button labeled ?Allow? Facebook now sends you to a page full of colorful images with a single button labeled ?Play Game?.

So what can you do to protect your privacy and avoid letting some app post on your behalf? Practice constant vigilance, of course!

Keep an eye out for the tiny print, remember that you always have a choice (except when it comes to Timeline, of course), and regularly review your privacy settings to make sure that you haven't slipped up and had an app take a whole foot when you offered it a single inch.

Want more tech news?or interesting?links? You'll get plenty of both if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts,?or circling her?on?Google+.

Psychologist In Brisbane - How Would You Know About Your Grief?

Grief is a state of emotional turmoil that results from the loss of something one holds as being valuable or something that plays an integral part in our day to day lives. Grief can result from:-

? Death of a close family member

? The breakup of a relationship

    ? Job loss

? The diagnosis of a terminal illness

    ? Bankruptcy

    ? A miscarriage

? Failure to realize a dream

    ? Death of a pet

    ? A traumatic experience

Of all possible causes of grief there is none that is more dramatic than the loss of a loved one.

How to determine the emotions associated with grief?

A number of emotions are associated with grief resulting from the loss of a loved one. Different individuals tend to go through some emotions while skipping others. The emotions tend to occur more as a roller coaster than an actual sequence of emotions.

    i. ? Shock/Denial: This is the inability to fully register that the loss has actually happened. In the loss of a loved one, an individual will often deny the reality of the death. This state might last from a few hours to several days.

    ii.

Anger: The anger associated with the loss can be directed to any number of persons or situations. In the case of the loss of a loved one, the anger might be directed to doctors, nurses, other family members, deceased, one own self or even God.

iii. Guilt: One might blame him or herself for having not done anything to prevent the death or for not having been there when the death happened. The guilt is mainly due to unresolved issues.

iv. Sadness: This is exhibited by prolonged periods of weeping or in intermittent periods where the individual bursts uncontrollably into tears. This marks the onset of accepting the death.

    v. Fear: Anxiety and fear arises as the individual contemplates the future. This might result in a state of panic especially in cases where the loss was that of a life partner, a sibling or a parent. The fear is also based on the realization of one?s mortality.

vi. Depression: This emotional state occurs when the individuals is unable to contemplate the future without the person who has died. The individual falls into a state of hopelessness. The individual losses all interest in all activities and self-isolation can occur.

It is worth noting that the above emotions are not the only ones exhibited during the period of grief. For instance in cases of the death of a loved one after prolonged suffering, the actual death might cause family members to experience a sense of intense relief. To better understand the grieving process you should consider visiting a psychologist in Brisbane if you happen to reside in Slacks Creek, Loganlea, Watershed, Edens Landing or Loganholme.

Petrick first worked with K2 Sports as VP and General Manager of the ski division from 1989-1997 before going to Booth Creek Ski Holdings as Executive VP of Product Development. He returned to K2 Sports in 2000 as VP of Global Sales and remained there until 2009. During his three-year hiatus from K2 Sports before now returning, Petrick has remained a strong voice and leading figure in the snowsports and outdoor recreation industries.

?Returning to K2 Sports is an incredible opportunity,? said Petrick. ?The company has market leading iconic brands across many outdoor active lifestyle categories. These leading brands give K2 Sports the unparalleled opportunity to build on the company?s reputation for product innovation, retail sales results, and ultimately, satisfied consumers in the years ahead.?

The scope of K2 Sports? investment venture will see resources allocated toward global sales expansion, manufacturing and technology platform enhancements, new category launches including ski boots, and accelerated brand growth. Petrick will help orchestrate product line decisions, trade policies, distribution solutions, and marketing communications across the K2 Sports portfolio of brands.

?We have exciting growth opportunities with product line launches in winter sports, our Zoot brand of triathlon gear, and our new Spring ?13 collection - which is leading to great counter seasonal growth,? said Petrick. ?Couple these with our targeted growth initiatives developed with our parent-company Jarden, and these are truly exciting times at K2 Sports.?

Routines for Writers ? Post Topic ? Creative Breakthroughs ? Whew!

We?ve talked about where our creativity comes from this month, how our thoughts and feelings influence it, and when procrastination helps or hurts the creative process. Now that we?ve talked about the more difficult side, let?s look at what creativity looks like when it works.

Creative breakthroughs ? whew! I don?t know if I could continue trying to live a creative lifestyle and work in a creative endeavor if I didn?t have frequent breakthroughs. I think we get an endorphin rush when the breakthrough is big enough. We?re happy to the point of laughing out loud and we?re filled with sudden energy to keep going! Yay! Thank God for wiring our brains this way!

This past week I?ve been working my way through a book I found in my library, The Right-Brain Business Plan by Jennifer Lee. Only two chapters in, and I love this book so much it?s on my must-buy list! The web site is also spectacular, full of colorful encouragement and happiness-inducing how-to?s! You may know that I started my own publishing company to publish my books. I did not jump into it with no business sense, though. I have a bachelor degree in business administration as well as a master?s degree in creative writing. I want to work in a creative industry, but I want to do it right.

I?ve written a few business plans in my life, done a halfway decent job with them, but I don?t think I ever looked at them again once they were printed and added to the 3-ring binder of ?business stuff.? But the way Jennifer suggests creating your business plan ? and I?m only two chapters in, but I think I?m right ? both uses common business sense and business tools and the more visual creative side of your brain to create a bona fide business plan that doesn?t get filed away and?that you?ll actually use. (Guess what optional reading is being added to my January online class on goal setting?!)

One of your writing routines should be to check in with yourself to see if you?re on the road you meant to be on. When I went to the RWA National Conference in July, one thing I wanted to verify while I was attending workshops and meeting agents and other publishing professionals was ? am I on the right road for me?

By the end of the last day, I was doing the Happy Kitty Dance because I knew self-publishing and being a business owner was exactly where I wanted to be! Nothing had changed to make me decide to give it up. Hearing all about what?s going on in New York and who is looking for what didn?t make me want to re-start submitting to agents and editors. Now that I?m making a more visual and creative business plan (and giving myself permission to forego the look of a traditional business plan!), I?m more excited about doing more frequent check-ins with myself. I love Jennifer?s idea of using index cards to keep track of parts of the plan so you can add new ideas when you think of them. I?m sure Jennifer is a friend I just haven?t met yet! I love the way she thinks! :) I?ve been trying to make my business background fit into my creative life, and I?ve tried to get my creative life to fit into a sound business mold, but Jennifer is the one who put the two worlds together.

Am I excited enough here for you to click on those links and check out the book and the web site?! The excitement is because I had a creative breakthrough last week! Something that I?ve been trying to create finally came together and I?ve got the endorphin rush to prove it. And not just an endorphin rush ? meeting your friend for coffee and talking about your works-in-progress can give you that, but does it always help you write more and better afterward? Part of knowing you?ve had a creative breakthrough is when you have lists and pages of ideas, and when normal and unrelated ?stuff? in your life sparks even more ideas.

Reading the first chapter of The Right-Brain Business Plan on the elliptical machine at the gym (difficult, but it can be done ? just don?t fall off when turning pages!), I had so many ideas about getting back into teaching that I was afraid I?d lose some of them. I used to put on an annual one-day writer?s workshop called Write Now! Workshops. I stopped doing them when I started traveling so much. But I have plans for a lot of online and live workshops starting in January 2013. I knew I wanted to get back into teaching, but I wasn?t sure how and where I wanted to start. Jennifer asked all the right questions to get my little brain humming!

I?ve still got most of the work ahead of me in getting my business plan down. But the other thing that excites me is that I can spend a little time ?playing.? I can use that drawing class I took two years ago to make little drawings on my business plan. (Oh, how my professors at The Wharton School would faint!) I can use some of the cool programs on my Mac to get more colorful and more creative. I can take pictures of myself in PhotoBooth and record me giving myself a pep talk in GarageBand and add those to my business plan. I?ve been praying for God to help rekindle the fire in my spirit for my work and I think this is part of His answer! I?M SO EXCITED! LOL!

Check out the book and the web site. Get yourself a plan that works for you, no matter how you get it written, and then work at making it happen. You can do this!

Speaking of creative breakthroughs, my friend Mona Hodgson had a creative breakthrough recently. She?s been writing children?s books since before we met (she?s one of my first writer friends!) and has published over a dozen of them. But she wanted to write adult books, too. In 2010, her dream came true.?Two Brides Too Many, the first book in the Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series, was released by WaterBrook Multnomah. Too Rich for a Bride followed in 2011, and The Bride Wore Blue came out in May of this year. On October 2, the fourth and final book, Twice a Bride, will be released.

Today Mona is celebrating the release of her very first book trailer! You get to be among the first people to see it! The trailer is beautifully put together. You?ll want to visit these four sisters yourself. Celebrate with us by picking up a copy of Two Brides Too Many, or finish where you left off if you?ve already started the series. I think you?ll enjoy it. Congratulations, Mona, on your wonderful series and the beautiful book trailer! I can?t wait to see what your next series will be!

You can visit Mona at her web site?www.monahodgson.com/?and on Facebook at Facebook.com/Author.Mona.
