Bring Food Home Conference
Bring Food Home, coordinated and administered by the Sustain Ontario alliance, is Ontario?s biennial conference connecting individuals and organizations who are working towards a sustainable food system in our province. The conference is organized by a team of partners from across the province, as well as locally in Windsor, working and meeting over conference calls. Many of the decisions and workload are managed by six
volunteer committees.
Bring Food Home 2013: Building Bridges Together will be held in Windsor, Ontario, November 17th-19th 2013 and?will be the third official conference following the first two held in Waterloo and Peterborough.
Application Deadline: January 31st, 2013
Anticipated Term: As early as mid-February (but no later than mid-March) to Jan. 15, 2014
Hours: Part-time flexible hours: expectation is 2-4 days/week with a minimum of one day/week in the Toronto office
Salary: Salary is flexible and dependent on hours and experience, with up to a maximum of $18,300 allocated for the term.
Position Overview
Reporting to the conference chairs and Sustain Ontario program manager, and working in close collaboration with organizing committees, the Bring Food Home Conference Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Sitting on all BFH committees
- Overall promotion and outreach
- Financial sponsorship and fundraising
- Recruitment of volunteers leading up to and during the conference
- Conference site logistics, registration and payment collection
- Program design and scheduling
- Communications with presenters
- Program speaker panels, plenaries and keynotes
- Writing and delivering messaging and media releases to local, provincial and national media
- On-site documenting including photographers and video
- Ensuring all technology needs are met including projectors, webinars, video and electrical outlets
- Working with the program manager to oversee conference finances
- Evaluation and compilation of conference proceedings
- Organizational tabling, food purveyors and social events
- Bring Food Home website and social media
In addition to the conference, the coordinator will support the organization of Growing Good Food Ideas Videos Launch in April 2013 and may assist with other Sustain Ontario related events throughout the year.
The Ideal Candidate
- At least 1-2 years experience coordinating events, ideally including multi-day events for several
- hundred people
- Proven fundraising abilities
- Ability to work both independently and in a team
- Experience facilitating and/or working with committees
- Experience coordinating volunteers from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communications,
- Experience with media releases and public relations
- Experience using social media as an effective promotions tool
- Knowledge of Ontario?s food system, and key food and farming organizations, considered an asset
