Costa Rica Retirement: Goodbye Tension, Hello Pension!

We have lived our lives to the fullest and now we are ready to settle down, relax and enjoy life at a slightly slower pace. This is why we plan so scrupulously when considering our retirement future. However, undoubtedly things can get a little confusing when pondering retirement in another country.

It?s really not as complex and you might think.

Costa Rica retirement has always remained at the top of the leader board for desirable retirement destinations in the world. The small Central American country is known for their peaceful demeanor and quality healthcare system. Costa Rica has been called everything from the Switzerland of Latin America to the Hawaii of Central America.

Seniors are reportedly saving up to 75% on their monthly expenditures by living in this lush, vibrant climate filled with dense rain forests and lavish white sand strewn beaches. But what do they know that we do not? And is this all marketing hype without much substance?

It has been said that there are a few hundred thousand expats living in Costa Rica ? how is it possible that so many people could be so wrong?

How often do you walk down the road and someone walking by says to you, ?Pure life my friend.? You are more likely to receive an anti-war pamphlet or a quick shove and a glancing glare from a passer by.

In Costa Rica the most commonly used phrase is: Pura Vida

Directly translated this means ?pure life?. This phrase sums up the life one could expect living in Costa Rica. The people are cordial and polite, inviting and accommodating, and best of all?appreciative of expat communities. Don?t speak Spanish? That?s ok too because more often than not Ticos (Costa Ricans) will likely try their best to communicate with you given you are supportive of the patience required when communicating in any foreign language.

The advantages are innumerable: you can be free of the stresses of daily life that often overwhelm us. You can rest comfortably knowing that top-quality healthcare is available to you at a moments notice. Live TAX FREE as expats can retire in Costa Rica while enjoying their pensions without the burden of taxes being siphoned from their already minimal income. For arthritis sufferers there is good news also: many report alleviation of their pains due to the temperate climates throughout the country. Most importantly?what would you pay to turn back the clock? In Costa Rica one can relive their youth back to the days of bakeries, butchers, home-made furniture and crafts and even farmers markets for all your fresh exotic fruit and vegetables. When was the last time you went to the bakery for a loaf of fresh baked bread?

Unfortunately, before we can begin to enjoy our new life we must first weave our way through the labyrinth of options including, but not exclusive to: 401(a), 403(b), 401(k), 457, SEP IRAs and SIMPLE. Simple? You?ve got to be kidding me? These so-called retirement options sound more like jet liners than anything else. So we will leave that aspect up to the professional money managers because this is beyond the scope of this article.

Returning to what makes Costa Rica retirement so desirable?

Located a short 9 degrees off the equator sits Costa Rica. Roughly estimated at a population of some 4.5 million, Costa Rican people are famous for their outlook on life and laid back approach to life in general. National Geographic has said that there are areas of the country that contain 5% of the world?s flora and fauna and also features more designated and protected park lands than any other country in the world.

In summary there are clearly many benefits to consider yet for the better part, the #1 most important piece of advise anyone could give would be?COME SEE FOR YOURSELF?then maybe you will understand clearer why Costa Rica retirement is being so heavily talked about.

Who knows?you might not want to go back!
