CHARLESTON, S.C. ? During a campaign rally the night before South Carolina?s primary election, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich accused a heckler who interrupted his speech of being a supporter of Mitt Romney.
While giving remarks to supporters on Friday night aboard the USS Yorktown, a man yelled out: ?When will you release your ethics report??
With polls showing Gingrich surging past Romney in South Carolina, the former Massachusetts governor?s campaign on Friday called on Gingrich to ?authorize the release of the complete record of the ethics proceedings against him? dating back to his speakership.
During the Friday night event after the crowd booed the heckler, Gingrich said: ?Actually, you need to do a little research instead of shouting mindlessly.?
He told the man that the records are available online. Gingrich has repeatedly claimed the ethics complaints filed against him were politically motivated.
Referencing Romney, who he has called on to release his income tax filings, Gingrich then said: ?And I assume you?re for the candidate who refuses to release his income taxes.?
