Here's a novel thought -- what if every Secure Digital card had
wireless? Eye-Fi's been doing a fine job
on its own, but here in Las Vegas, it's the SD Association making it easier for everyone else to grab a slice of the pie. Unveiled today is the Wireless LAN SD standard, which marries storage and wireless inside a form factor you're familiar with. The wireless aspect relies on the typical 802.11a/b/g/n, and it's applicable to full size SD / SDHC / SDXC and microSD / SDHC / SDXC memory cards. Naturally, future cards that have WiFi embedded will be able to easily share and upload shots sans a PC middleman, but there's no word yet on when memory makers will start shipping products with the standard enabled. We're reaching out for more on precisely that and will update should we hear anything back.
