Interested in making your home more energy-efficient? Need some added inspiration? How about a cash incentive and free help? (Oh, and lower energy bills, too.)
Arlingtonians can apply to receive cash rebates for home energy improvements through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR? (HPwES) program, which has improved energy efficiency in 100,000+ U.S. homes. The program is supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Dept. of Energy and is sponsored by the Virginia-based Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP).
In Arlington, the program focuses on reducing energy use and costs.
You can earn HPwES certification by implementing some improvements reducing energy usage in your home by at least 20 percent and
- Improving insulation
- Air sealing throughout the home
- Installing more efficient lighting
- Upgrading older heating/AC systems or appliances
As part of the program, trained and certified HPwES contractors perform an energy assessment and recommend cost-effective improvements. Participating HPwES contractors ensure improvements meet program requirements and goals.
Arlington homeowners who enroll in HPwES may receive:
- Up to $1,000 cash rebate to first 25 approved applicants
- Up to $595 cash rebate to next 80 approved applicants
- 50 free home energy reviews
- Low-interest financing option for cost of improvement through Arlington Federal Credit Union
- Improved home values, home comfort, and long-term durability
- HPwES certification
