US national coach named to lead Furman lacrosse

GREENVILLE, S.C. --?

Furman named U.S. men's national senior coach Richie Meade to lead the Paladins new lacrosse program.

Furman athletic director Gary Clark made the announcement Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, site of the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse championships.

Clark said Meade was the perfect person to start the fledgling program. The Paladins plan to start Division I play during the 2014-15 academic year. Meade says he's grateful Furman's leadership put their trust in him.

Meade was named national team coach by US Lacrosse last December. He will lead the United States in the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse world championship in Denver, Colo.

Meade was head coach at the United States Naval Academy from 1994-2011.
