Are paying too much for your Home Improvement Flooring Projects? Well, this could be due to your attitude. Remember the old saying, ?More bees with honey?? This couldn?t be more true when it come to home improvement flooring projects or home improvement projects for that matter.
When I go to house for the first initial home improvement flooring visit and assessment process, the home owners are silently qualifying me and paying attention to everything I say and every action. What the home owner tends to forget, is that the contractor(me) is qualifying them and doing the same thing. When the contractor starts fumbling over words or can?t answer simple questions and so on, they?re trust factor goes down drastically and chances are they are not going to get that job. There are other factors as well as to what can qualify the contractor, but these are just a few.
The same thing goes for the home owner. I went to a house recently to bid a flooring project and I was greeted at the door with a woman who had a scowl on her face, arms were crossed and the first thing she said to me was ?I am on a very tight schedule and have only 5 minutes? and I was early. So, to me that was strike number 1. Disrespectful of my time and this time slot was at her convenience. I understand that people are in a hurry these days and have little time. Anyways, it was just a living room and a dining room and I could do it very quickly. As I started to measure, she started asking me about insurance questions, and bond and license info, which I Happily told her were all in place. As I am measuring, she told me that the plumber that she had here for her Home Improvement project, she had to sue. Immediately a RED FLAG went up in my head. STRIKE 2 I said to myself. I kept measuring and she then began to proceed on speaking and said the electrician she had here she sued as well. I mean, when I heard that I was like a dog in the middle of the night with my ears perked up hearing a prowler in the house?.LOL!
I finished up measuring and thanked her for her time and told her I would email her the quote. Now, I?m not one to not do what I say, so that night when I was putting the day?s measures together and compiling the quotes, I figured out her small job which was only a few thousand dollars, something like $2800 dollars.(to a reasonable person) guess what her quote was when I sent it to her? $6800.That?s right, $6800 dollars. As you can tell I never got a response from her. The worst thing she could ever say is that I?m too expensive.
This is just one example how having the right attitude and being a little bit more of reasonable, personable and a nice person will get you a reasonable and fair price for your home improvement flooring project. This goes for anything you buy, cars, houses, dinner, cabinets, flooring etc. Have a good attitude towards the person you are dealing with and you?ll find you will get a great price, great work and your experience will for the most part be a positive unforgettable one.
