App-ly Speaking: Shake-a-Phrase App Review

As a playwright I've had my fair share of writer's block. There is nothing more frustrating than staring at a blank screen unable to create an interesting plot. Shake-a-Phrase would have been a real life saver when I was writing my senior project in college and I'm very happy to have it on my iOS devices now for future writing projects.

Shake-a-Phrase is not a one-trick pony. It is obvious the developer wanted to make this app multi-funtional and educational. The most popular function is the random phrase generator. Shake up your iOS device and it will generate a wacky, random phrase that will get your imagination rolling. For instance, the phrase it just gave me was, "The mysterious yet bouncy specialist guided a distracted carpenter."
Another function is the "Story Starter" function. The app generates ideas in the form of questions or a statement to get your mind going. I just got, "Imagine a faithful trustee and a mindless guard buried in the wilderness..." Keep shaking it up until you get just the right idea.

The last function is perfect for your grade schooler. It is the "quiz" function. As you see a phrase appear on the screen, you are asked to identify certain parts of speech in the sentence as quickly as possible. For instance, "Identify all the nouns." The faster you touch the nouns, the better your score. This is a great way to quiz your kids on parts of speech and keep things fun!

One thing I would love to see improve in the future is graphics. They're not bad, but could really improve. The main menu somehow doesn't agree with my eyes.

Shake-a-Phrase is fun and creative. Perfect for storytelling, writing, creative family dinner conversations and grammar quizzing - if you appreciate creativity you need to consider buying it.
For a limited time, Shake-a-Phrase is on sale for .99, so snag it now before the price goes back up!
