Origination News says as a result of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) Annual Survey of Senior Costs, since 2000 typical living expenses have increased 73 percent while the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) has only gone up 31 percent. ?Apartment rentals are up 39 percent and home ownership expenses have increased 32 percent. ?Taxes have risen 85 percent, homeowners insurance is up 91 percent, electricity has increased 50 percent, heating oil has jumped 190 percent, and natural gas is up 171 percent. ?TSCL Chairman Larry Hyland says millions of seniors are barely able to scrape by. ?He says what $68 would buy in 2000 dollars now costs $100.
